Implants that bond and protect.

OsteoCoat engineers the surface of titanium dental and orthopaedic implants with a hydroxyapatite/nano-silver coating that encourages bone growth and helps prevent infection.

The problem

Implant failure often starts at the surface.

Bare titanium has limited bioactivity and can corrode, while bacterial infection remains a major cause of implant failure. Better surfaces mean faster integration and fewer complications.

65.2%

bone–implant contact with the optimal 1 g/L silver coating.

162.25 HV

maximum hardness reached by HA/nano-silver coatings.

51.5%

bone volume density, outperforming uncoated titanium and pure HA.

How it works

How it works

A clear path from data to decision.

Prepare

Titanium implants are cleaned and prepared.

Coat

Micro-arc oxidation at 200 V deposits a hydroxyapatite/nano-silver layer.

Optimise

1 g/L silver and 60 s deposition give the best balance of properties.

Implant

Coated implants integrate with bone while resisting bacteria.

Product

What makes it different.

Every feature is grounded in the founding research.

Better bone bonding

Highest bone–implant contact of all tested surfaces.

Antibacterial

All silver-containing coatings inhibited E. coli growth.

Corrosion resistant

Markedly improved corrosion resistance versus bare titanium.

Harder surface

Hardness up to 162.25 HV.

The research

Built on peer-reviewed research.

  • HA and HA/nano-silver coatings fabricated on titanium by micro-arc oxidation at 200 V.
  • HA/nAg coatings improved roughness, hardness and corrosion resistance; hardness peaked at 162.25 HV.
  • All silver-containing coatings inhibited E. coli growth.
  • 1 g/L Ag achieved the highest bone–implant contact (65.2%) and bone volume density (51.5%).

FAQ

Questions we hear often.

Why nano-silver?

Silver is antibacterial. Our research found 1 g/L gives the best balance; higher levels reduced bone contact.

Is it approved for patients?

Not yet. Results are pre-clinical and the process is moving toward further testing.

Is this a finished commercial product?

It is a research-based student startup moving from validated prototype toward pilots with real users.

Can we partner or run a pilot?

Yes. We are looking for organisations willing to test the solution in real conditions and share feedback.
